Late Winter in Cleveland
I live in Cleveland. It snows in Cleveland. Sometimes it snows in early March in Cleveland. We're getting a lot of snow now, and there's a shortage of road salt. Actually, there's tons of the bloody stuff, it's just below Lake Erie and it needs to be dug up and brought up.
The house has new storms, I have a fireplace and a new boiler with a pilot light. I'm making bread, I've got loads of tea, the cats are all sleeping on the laundry, and I just went to the West Point Market, so I've got supplies. The only thing I lack is canned cat food, but there's plenty of dry and I've got tinned chicken. Yeah. Like they're suffering.
But on the news, people are reacting like it's the last days of Pompeii. I mean it's SNOW, people, not fallout or volcanic ash! Yes, it's a white out. Yes, I'm not planning on leaving the house. But, sheesh. Tri-C is closed. The Cleveland and County libraries are closed. Lakeland college is closed. Basically Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Summit, Ashtabula, Medina, Geauga, and Wayne counties are--closed. They closed the outlet stores in Lodi. There's a run on groceries.
I will point out that it was sixty-five farenheit three days ago, and this stuff will melt. As I get older, my taste for manufactured hysteria has waned. I'm putting on a tape of the Match Game and will go fold clothes.
